Il tutto viene cotto e fornisce la base alla quale verranno aggiunti altri ingredienti, solitamente carne e vegetali. L'Okonomiyaki è quasi una via di mezzo tra un'omelette ed un pancake. Solitamente viene cucinato su un Teppan e viene spesso servito con maionese e con una salsa tipica.
