Home to the Ait Hdiddou tribe, and a symbol of Berber culture, the town of Imilchil has been designated as GIAHS site in 2011, as a result of joint collaboration between FAO and INRA, Tafilet's ORMVA and ADRAR association.
Among the objectives of the GIAHS initiative in Morocco is to enhance the capacities of traditional and local farmers in Imilchil / Amellagou communities through better natural resources management (water, rangelands), processing of GIAHS products, greater access to marketing, and the identification of opportunities and incentives to promote conservation and sustainable use of agricultural biodiversity and associated biodiversity, as well as promoting cultural heritage through tourism.
