It makes me sad to see people in such a state. I live in a city with a compassion for the homeless problem so seeing them in a place like this is important.

The urge to create, the urge to photograph, comes in part from the deep desire to live with more integrity, to live more in peace with the world, and possibly to help others to do the same. Your photograph here is amazing! Bravo!

it´s a good shot, no question... but i am not sure about it. first thing i thought was - sad realtity, indeed - that this photo takes away the last possible remains of dignity... what do you think?

GeoDesigner says:

@ pîetbe: I agree about the poor man's dignity, but I believe society as a whole took his dignity. Sadder to me is knowing there are hundreds or thousands in the same situation as him in my city, and people walk up and down this staircase all the time and just pretend not to look at him. Hence the photograph, it's a way for people to look and to be compassionate.

good morning, thanks for your answer. yes, of course, dignity has already taken away, it was just that this photo made me unsure, which certainly is not the worse thing a picture can do!! voilà, you got it in the end. my best wishes!

I recognize the cigarette carton. The brand is called "FREE", which I think adds an ironic subplot to the picture.

if you look at society as one self-organising, sensitive system, then we are all inherently responsible for everthing that happens within our own communities. i cannot pass a homeless person without feeling some sort of guilt at their being there. this is harsh picture that says a lot a about western society's failures.

Too often the homeless are considered the invisible people... the police where I live even say not to give them any money or food.
