to boldly sit in a basement

to boldly sit in a basement by Genista.
This is the original model of the Enterprise, used for the filming of the original series (TOS) hidden away in the basement of the museum store at the Smithsonian's Air and Space Museum. It's in a badly lit glass box in the middle of a badly lit floor of lesser toys. The photo took quite a bit of treatment to look decent.

It most definitely should be in a dark place, methinks.

It's quite strange how they completely fail to adequately present this. It felt like they didn't want this mere fake spaceship mixed in among with all their real ones, but didn't want to refuse the donation either. If our guidebook hadn't mentioned this, we would never have found it.

Was it "on display" in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet, stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying "Beware of the Leopard"??

Yes, but we found it anyway, because we brought our towel.

Is this the real original? And they treat it so badly? God, i hate those people that do this. Greetings, a big star trek fan.

It's the original but they "restored" it twice. Notice those awful lines all over it? They weren't there originally. They added those in the early 90's.

It has the Star Wars look.....weathered, worn, and used. This is probably what a starship would look like after years of service. You could call it a "Lucas" interpretation of the ship.

Star Trek fans do NOT all live in basements, nor do we sit in them all day (I happen to live in a 40-year-old Singlewide I rent from my Aunt Ellie, thank you} and we do NOT ... oh, you mean the model from the show is in the basement .. ok, got it now. Sorry bout that ; )

I don't know for sure if this is the true LARGE filming miniature. I saw it during the Star Trek Exhibit back in the nineties, and they spent a lot of money restoring it at that time. It was hanging from the ceiling lit in all it's glory. It looked beautiful. I can't see them spending that kind of money to shove it in the basement. Remember, there were a few different filing miniatures of different scales and technical makeup.
