the death of a cliche...

the death of a cliche...

In the past decaying storefronts indicated a neighborhood's decline and, if an open door or window permitted a view beyond the building, some indication of the area's future. Leave it to Brooklyn to put an end to that cliche.

Located on gentrified Driggs Avenue in Williamsburg, the owner of this former barbershop is waiting for that million dollar offer...... and, if this is the same
barbershop mentioned in Henry Miller's, Book of Friends.... Stanley's uncle ("a drunken brute") owned the barber shop on the ground floor of the house he lived in".... possibly a million five? now that's an obscene price!

Brooklyn Loves A Cliche!

Brooklyn Loves A Cliche!

Ever since Kodak introduced it's Brownie camera squirrels have been the focus of backyard animal photographers around the world. Now Brooklyn has taken that cliche and blown it up to icon status to the delight of residents and passers-by alike!

OMG! It's a scandal! Someone's painted over Vandal!

OMG! It's a scandal! Someone's painted over Vandal!

I never thought I'd live to see the day that the work of the iconic graffiti artist, Vandal, would be destroyed! But the giraffe is gone, replaced by a mouth full of teeth that need repair! The loss to the world of graffiti art cannot be measured! sigh.... sigh..... sigh....

Ever since Gustav Klimt painted the auditorium of The Old Burgtheater, (here), artists in all medias have been capturing audiences from the stage. Here we have an audience during intermission of The Big Apple Circus plus, what I really love to photograph, light and shadows! Yea! A two fer....!

A view into the living past.

A view into the living past.

All I kept thinking while photographing Broken Windows,, a part of Jim Campbell's Scattered Lights, installation in Madison Park, was how desperately those dying plants wanted to go back into summer past.....
