Farm Tractor and Family

Farm Tractor and Family by gem66.
My Uncle George appears to be starting the tractor. I don't think he really was. The other folks are all relatives of mine. This was photographed on the farm in Oklahoma, which my grandparents homesteaded when the area was opened up. My mother grew up on that farm and I lived and worked there in the summer during my teen years. I have so many fond memories of that old farm. Every once in awhile I think I can almost smell the sage after a rain storm and hear the meadowlarks singing their sweet songs.

I remember times like these.

Most of our tractors had rubber tires, but we had an old steel wheel model we used just to power the threshing machine.

The tractor I learned on had rubber wheels. It was a Farmall. I don't remember the model.

I cut my driving teeth on a '47 Farmall H. I've driven with my thumbs up ever since. They had a tendency to spin the steering wheel when you crossed a furrow at an angle and if your thumbs were in the way... oh well.

I remember that. I kept my thumbs out of the way as well.

My child memories are in a tree orchard, and I was grown enough to go with my grandfather shopping for the first tractor. The first time to fall from it... was just some weeks after learning to dirve a cycle.

Thanks for sharing!

Thank you michelshon. That a pretty cool YouTube site. Man! Tractors have come a long way since I was a kid, back in the 1940's.

Thank you proudnamvet. I have added the photo to the group and joined as well.
