ready for planting

ready for planting

Not all the Swamp Maple wings are red. These have dried on the tree and, I suppose, are ready for planting...^+^

sugarland

sugarland

I noticed what looked like a nice sunrise potential the other morning, and took a drive across the river to see what I could get. I couldn't find the exact spot I was looking for, so I just pulled off the road at this sugarcane field as the sunrise began to unfold. I had plenty of time to set up some shots, and took lots of photos with different perspectives and plenty of different exposures to combine later in photoshop. Life was good.

As the colors began to fade and I returned to my truck, I set up for one more shot before breaking down the tripod. That's when, after taking at least 100 or so shots with no warnings from the camera, that I got the dreaded "no cf card" warning flashing on the lcd screen. I was dumbfounded!!!

At first, I just threw my hands in the air in disgust, but then, since there was still a bit of color left in the sky and I had another card in the truck, I rallied and tried to revisit the spots that I had shot before. Of course, this time I was in quite a rush, and not in the best of moods.

A classic tale of the ones that got away...}=P

winter wings

winter wings

I wouldn't have known that these seedlings are from a Swamp Maple if not for Scott Schexnaydre's photo, here...[flic.kr/p/bmWC5i]

It's always great to run across one these trees in the winter woods, for an unexpected splash of winter color!

While Japanese Magnolias are blooming all over Baton Rouge, I'm still waiting. It's surprising how much difference being 15 miles to the north can make!

faux spring

faux spring

This could be bad for the local flora, because I know that we'll get some more cold weather before winter is over. I mean it is only January, after all!
