I know my country..

I know my country.. by gavino•vz.
I know my country does not have the greatest history. We've killed thousands in our "manifest destiny", tricked countries into war with us, and used others as our servants (the politically correct tern would be "interests"). We forsake our GOD for the idols of the world and now we our headed down into, what could possibly be, the "Greater" Depression.

Where not the greatest stranded to hold up. But the ideas on which this government was founded: liberty, limited government, and a sound monetary system, is something that every people, tribe, and nation could find "good" for themselves.

I've had ideas like going out and spreading these ideals to foreign countries and peoples. But will they really listen? Is the "sheeple" attitude a uniquely a American one, or one that can be applied to all of mankind.

Some times I consider that idea to be nonsense. That I am deserting my country. And that even if I was given the opportunity to do so, I would be the wrong tool for the job.

I don't know what I'm doing anymore. Some prayers would be nice. Keep finding that I'm slipping back into the norm and bliss of a false truth.

I like your flag photo. Not sure I agree with your sentiments. With freedoms come bad choices by some. The media exasperates the few(s) mistakes to an extreme. We are a uniquely prosperous country. We have the ability to pull ourselves up in ways that others do not. One culture is not better than another. Diversity is our strength...and also a weakness as it causes much internal tension. Men against women. Ethnicity against ethnicity. Minority against other minorities. Who's served best. We are all lobbying for a better life. No country is perfect...and I think you would find that all countries out there have a sorted history. Many are proud of their darker hours. I don't think we are too bad. I am proud to be an American. I'd like to learn more about other cultures, but I don't want to join any of them, nor do I want to press my lifestyle on them. Theirs is a norm...not my norm, but an acceptable human alternative...stated within reason. Oppresors not included in that statement. Oy, a very hot topic all over a flag. Nice image.

great photo and a great comment from .

being as young as you are and hearing your stance gives me a sense of pride that there are some young people out there who "get it" that we are more than ourselves, we are a proud country. You are not selfish nor do you have a sense of entitlement that so many young people and others who come here have. Everyone wants something for nothing, and that doesn't bode well with the ideals of the founding fathers, but no one wants to tell anyone that anymore.

Thanks for knowing where you stand for seeing through the hype/hope/hype.

Take your knowledge into the classrooms...share it with your classmates, challenge your teachers, teach your brothers...and then become a teacher. Become a leader.

@ptcanon, When I read about how much people sacrificed in protest and in war (just and unjust) for this country and then watch it go down the drain I get very angered. The truth is out there, and when you find it you want everyone to know and accept it. When people turn you down, it's a tragic feeling. I don't hate my country. I love it. But sometimes I wonder if this fight is for me. I give up to easily I guess and I need to put more push into my run.

@Farl, Thanks Mr. Farl! Merry Christmas to y'all as well. Hope you have a blessed Christmas.

@Chap, haha yeah it's professional! I moved my flag under the lamp in my bed room. haha.

@Orbitgal, Thanks for the kind words. I just need to clear my head and get all my ducks in one row. Plan out things and lock and loud. With many of my goals set in 2008 and look forward to what I can (LORD willing) in 2009.

Keep the faith, Gavin. You're a good man - and a good American. As MLK, Jr. once said: "the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice." I believe this applies to both individuals and nations. We all have our setbacks, but in the long run, we will know which path is the right one, and the question then becomes whether we have the courage of conviction to follow it.

All nations have their dark chapters, but two great hallmarks of American history - and the American people - are that we are always driven to a more perfect union and a better world; and even despite our deepest failures and shortcomings, America - and singularly America - has done more than any other nation in the history of mankind to bring freedom to those the world over who had no power of their own to do so, to restore liberty for those who once had it but then lost it, and to be its greatest protector for all the rest of us.

If you ever lose yourself in some of life's smaller details, just keep that big picture in mind, and then be mindful of the part you can play in your own life to perpetuate that great purpose and tradition.

All the best to you and yours for the holiday season and new year.

Great portrait of Old Glory, btw.

Simply an awe inspiring picture. In response to your question, people are all the same in many fundamental ways, although our culture, religion, experiences, and perspectives might be different. We all want the same things, and we all make the same mistakes. America is not really a place, a government, a set of laws, an army, a collection of shopping malls, or a bunch of people sitting around watching television so they will know who to vote for. America is an idea and an ideal. We who grew up believing in this idea should not be discouraged because the idea has never fully been realized, we should instead be thankful that we have been exposed to the idea, and we have been inspired by it. We know what we can do to make a better society, a better government, a better future for ourselves and our children, and believe me, that's all we need to do to help the rest of the world. If we can bring to reality the vision of america that we falsely believed was already real as children, then others will gladly follow our example.

Nice photo of our flag. A thought provoking statement that warrants further discussion. I'll come back later.

Beautifully captured. I mean you made those vibrant colours really stand out. The composition is just as well done. Your statement is very well written as well. Good thoughts.

If we are looking for a perfect country, well, the search is over: there isn’t one. We can only hope, pray but most of all work to better the one we have. And improvements can only come about from negative feedbacks.

I do not believe the extreme . But I consider the political banditism the vaccinisation to young men despair into values represents America.

I do not believe in , dangerous for the world, the childish naivete of Obama nor the obstinate flounder into errors and the lack courage to acknowledgeable of Bush.
I am not 'left' , not 'right'
I am thousands of miles from America - but you make in mistake if you think that here we cannot hear the heartbeat of your Country.
