The Eagle Worrier
03/06/04
So, I got set up, took a few shots, and then had the brainstorm to set the camera on burst and send Linda up to scare the eagle into the air. 5 quick shots of it leaping into the air, one`s bound to be a winner. This is after she`d walked by him three times, she`s explaining what we`d like. No cigar. Apparently, if I wanted someone leaping off the rocks, it was going to have to be her. She even tried flapping her arms to show him, at which point he just turned around and wouldn't look at her. When we pulled away in the truck, the eagle was still sitting there watching us. Probably wondering what that was all about.
There's a fascinating story about an eagle rescue of sorts here, too. www.flickr.com/groups_topic.gne?id=8044

I'd know sometimes what others -folks and animals- are thinking about those madcaps wit this silvery thing in the hands...
A good shot, Darn!

LOL!! Linda, you're just not that scary! He seems to be calmly watching her to see what she'll do next.

obviously we are not much of a predatory threat here....he seems to almost be saying what the heck does she think I am doing here........

Ha ha, that's funny :D That eagle must have been thinking, I'm an eagle, but she sure is a loon.
Well Jim, just pack up a few things and you and Linda go out a venturin. Don't set a destination, just drive...

Yeahs...never got that near to an eagle...are they used to be visited by people? Our crane family that stays here the whole year long is very, very shy and nerveous when we approach...and up up and away they always are..

I was thinking that those windchimes
look tasty, maybe I should stick my tongue out and give em a taste. Then I thought, nawwww..
Right on, all of us have a little loon in us. Some of us just embrace it and run with it :DDD

Such a funny shot, and an even better story! :-)
I'm still blown away by seeing that Fox squirrel. They are endangered in part of their range, and I'm guessing their numbers are in decline around here and that's probably why I've never seen one.

"if I wanted someone leaping off the rocks, it was going to have to be her", not very romantic Garn!
Great story, it's the first nice dentist I've ever heard about!

Oh man, some days are just like that, aren't they! Stubborn old bird - er, him, not you. And good sport award to Linda for trying!

Maybe the eagle's buddy had a camera on the other side and was working on the same picture from the other side. They are probably saying, "WOW, we never expect such participation as this. And so it goes.

amazing to see such wildlife in the wild! In NY we don't get that opportunity much.

That's funny. It looks like Linda and the eagle were communicating by eyes. Can you image how wonderful and peaceful the world would be if animals and mankind could communicate with each other?
I like animals.
This is great!!

When do eagles hatch where you are? Was the eaglet old enough to fly? Was March the actual date the picture was taken?
I really like the way Linda and eaglet are looking at each other... there is something about having her hands in her pocket that makes her look unthreatening.

You need to go the extra mile and buy Linda some wings.

Re: limberousity - I agree; one would think that with all the hiking, crawling, balancing, squatting we do for a shot we'd all be in great shape!! Good thing I didn't have to do much for that shot, though...it's just a picnic table!!
