Red Kite - Milvus milvus
A first for me - a Leucistic Red Kite. Had so much fun being out and about on my week off, been really getting into the countryside again having had so much of everything else to sort out.
Heard a few people talk of the 'local' white/grey kite but had never seen it myself - well bang there it is, the "rarest of the rare", 1:1000 of all kites are born Leucistic, most of which seldom live past their first year. I belive they are also infertile, but apparently there are reports of a "paired" leucistic bird .. so ... not sure ... will find out.
Lets cross our fingers for this guy/gal !
A mere record shot at the mo ... will go seeking it out tomorrow and see if I can get something a little more interesting .....
Thought it was worthy of sharing. Taken with my D300S and Nikkor AF-S 300mm f/4 ED IF.
White balance looks off as far as Kites go ... but it really is that colour !!
