is that a dead bird?

that's what i asked myself as i slowly approached a lump of feathers on the ground while i was walking poa poa yesterday.

the thing is, my brother and i were heading to my car last thursday when a bird...a TURKEY flew right by us in the parking lot. so of course i thought what was on the ground was a part of the bird.

all sorts of scenarios crossed my mind as to how it died and made it to the breezeway. perhaps it was hit by a car. the fact that there was no blood on the ground should have been my first clue that it wasn't road kill. but my mind wandered a little more and as soon as i saw the stick protruding from its side, i thought some nut job with a bow and arrow decided to hunt the bird down. then the thought came back that it must have been hit by a car...after being shot by an arrow.

luckily, that wasn't the case. i went in for a closer look and realized the mass was a feather duster (probably ostrich feathers).

my imagination really gets the best of me sometimes.

and why on earth was there a turkey on the loose in the apartment complex is beyond me.
