Edison Gold Moulded Phonograph Cylinder, 1907

Waxes can be considered chemically and physically plastics and here we see them industrially molded into a technological achievement of the XIXth century: phonographic media. This cylinder carries a two minute song and was released in 1907 in USA. By this time cylinders and shellac discs were rival technologies. By 1929 cylinders left the market.
