Victoria Study 3

    A Longwood Hybrid Victoria leaf underside. Note the very thick ribbing that supports the large leaf. The latest leaf measurement at the Sarah P. Duke Gardens in 2007 is 6 feet 6 inches across and 6 inches tall.

      This reminds me of a row longboats on an azure sea. I've been to Duke Gardens often (I live a half-hour away), but I've never seen (or known to look for) this. I think this is amazing, both as an image but also for the always cool engineering employed in nature.

      Since it's the underside you probably wouldn't get the chance to see it unless a leaf drifts very close to the pond edge and you lifted it up.
