This is the highest tree in the lake area of Painshill Park, and a regular resting place for itinerant Cormorants. However, today was the first time that I had seen as many as five there together.

There has been a group of ten Goosanders, including three females, at Painshill for the past few days. This was the female with the best coiffed hair-do.

Several migrant Short-Eared Owls have been staying near Old Woking since before Christmas, and I had heard that they normally give a late-afternoon flying display. So at 3.30 today I was there with my camera, and this owl has obligingly turned his head to face me and smiled (?).
