taken about an hour ago, so that makes around 4:30 am. we had a beautiful lighting storm pass over us. woke me up. after watching some of the Musashi trilogy, a personal fav - Japanese cinematography is genius - i geared up and drove down to Masonboro Sound, an narrow coastal barrier island stretch a mile or so down the road. the lightning was popping. at the time of this shot, the lightning cell was about 2 miles offshore according to the radar. so this is a pretty good sized strike.
knock on wood (and i am entirely superstitious about expecting good fortune) today is shaping up to be an interesting one. I'm gonna make a pot of coffee and some breakfast for my family, then head out to a wooden boat show down on the river. afterwards the Moscow State Circus is in town and im gonna go shoot that. We are all going to meet back up at 6 for dinner at a north african restaurant and a drink or two at a lounge if we arent too sated.

ohh - want to se some great lightning shots? youve got to check out ocellnuri's lightining captures from this week. they are stunning. my favorite is this one. the lighting looks like it is charging the building in the foreground. great shot brother man!

Your comments here made me rent the Musashi films, which i had not seen before, though i am a great Mifune fan. ThANKS SO MUCH FOR THE PHOTO AND FOR THE RECOMMENDATION. What great cinematagraphy and what great film making. And yes...what a great photo. Good job.
