Seattle Waterfront Sunset

Seattle Waterfront Sunset

Hi to all of my contacts! I am sorry to have been a bad contact lately, as I have been extremely busy with work and sneaking in a few outings here and there when I can. So I snuck in an outing to the Seattle Waterfront and texted several Flickr friends to possibly meetup! Well darn it, everyone has plans! I was able to catch Dene www.flickr.com/photos/denemiles/ at work and we were able to catch the color show above downtown from the waterfront!

This is probably my tenth time visiting this spot for sunset, and I finally got the color show I wanted. Oh, that is right! I had Dene with me...she truly is a lucky charm! She will deny that, but I believe it to be true! So I also got the "Blue Hour" shot that I have been wanting for ever...see...Dene is really a lucky charm!!!

This is three exposures (-2,0,+2) merged and tonemapped in Photomatix. Lots and lots of spot removal with the "Clone Stamp!" (I really need to get my sensor cleaned!) This was shot at 10mm to really capture this scene. I did have to do a slight perspective crop, which is required with this particular scene. I then did a little "Dodging and Burning" and ran through Topaz Adjust to regain some details. Lastly, I ran through Lightroom to add a slight vignette and adjusted clarity.

Thank you to ALL of my contacts for your views, comments and faves. I am hoping to slow down a bit to really have some time to visit all of your photostreams and comment on the inspiring work I know that you have been posting!

Snow at Twin Falls

Snow at Twin Falls

www.davidrironsjrphotography.com

Here is a shot from several weeks ago during the start of our "Snowpacalypse" here in the Seattle area. I have wanted a snow covered Twin Falls scene for a very long time and the snow was not too treacherous at this time to drive in. I hiked the almost two miles to the overlook and just was able to take in the magical landscape created by the snow! Here is a shot from earlier last year during the Spring: www.flickr.com/photos/fresnatic/6247385457/

This is a combination of three exposures (-2,0,+2) merged and tonemapped in Photomatix. I then ran through Topaz Adjust to regain some of the details and did some "Dodging and Burning" in Photoshop. I then ran through Lightroom to sharpen and add the slight vignette!

I have been busily preparing for a "Meet The Artist's" show at the art gallery located in Fall City, Washington, called "Quirks of Art." The show will be this Saturday February 11th from 10:00am to 7:00pm. I will be out there with some of my work and will explain the HDR process to the attendees. So please stop by if you have a chance. The gallery is located right on the 202 highway in Fall City and across from the Snoqualmie River.

Thank you for your views, comments and faves! I really appreciate the support and look to be visiting your photostreams a little more often now!

Seattle Kerry Park Winter Sunset

Seattle Kerry Park Winter Sunset

www.davidrironsjrphotography.com

Hey everyone, sorry about being a little intermittent here on Flickr! Been extremely busy with work and have tried to stop by your photostreams! I have also been very busy chasing the sunrises and sunsets that we have been having lately. Been missing the sunrises but have caught a few sunsets!

This is the classic postcard view of Seattle that has been shot to death by everyone that visits and by all of us Seattle photogs! I say that, but we are all drawn to the view and the potential for some epic light! I of course had four potential spots to take a sunset shot and had been slightly disappointed the night before at Kerry Park as there was a nice sunset, but the epic light show happened to the right of this shot on Saturday night! So I did settle for Kerry Park again on Sunday and was not disappointed!

So last night, for a few brief moments, the color happened above the city. I do have a couple later shots where the sky was pink, but the color was not as widespread as it is here! I also have a nice golden shot before the sun went down! I can at least happily saw I have a colorful sunset from Kerry Park to check off of my "Bucket List!"

This is a combination of three exposures (-2,0,+2) merged and tonemapped in Photomatix. I straightened the crop and actually did a slight perspective crop as I had the camera aimed higher into the sky to capture the clouds. I cleaned up some pesky dirt spots, I really need to get my sensor cleaned! I also ran through Topaz Adjust to regain a little detail. I sharpened a bit, and added a light vignette in Lightroom.

Thank you for all of your visits, faves, and comments. They are greatly appreciated.

Winter at the West Point Lighthouse

Winter at the West Point Lighthouse

www.davidrironsjrphotography.com

I am sure most of you have heard about the snowstorm and subsequent ice storm we had in Seattle this week. I just knew I needed to get me a snow covered lighthouse shot before it all melted away! This morning was the best day to travel this week, even though I was out on Wednesday when it really snowed, unfortunately I messed up and deleted ALL photos from that day! What a travesty!

So fortunately my shots from Monday when the snow began, and today as it melted are still good! I furiously took shots from many different angles and I still need to post the glorious sunrise I captured here last week! As there is the Seattle Sewage Treatment plant behind this lighthouse, I knew the road to the plant would be plowed for the heavy delivery trucks! I was right and had no problem navigating the steep hill down to the lighthouse!

As cold as it looks, this was relatively warm considering the winds that I fought on Wednesday! I have a slightly later shot when the sun quickly popped out and lit everything up in light and colors! It was very short lived as the sun ducked behind some clouds! Now comes the heavy rain we are supposed to get for the next three days! First over six inches of snow in Seattle, then about an inch of freezing rain and sleet yesterday to the possible 4-6 inches of rain!

This is a combination of three exposures (-2,0,+2) merged and tonemapped in Photomatix. I then cropped in Photoshop as well as did a little selective "Dodging and Burning." I ran through Topaz Adjust to regain details. Final vignette added and luminance adjustments in Lightroom.

Thank you for all of your views, comments and faves! I appreciate them. Oh, I did not win the King 5 "Deck the Halls Photo Contest." I do want to thank everyone who had the opportunity to vote. Here is the picture that I had submitted: www.flickr.com/photos/fresnatic/6555910769/

Finally a Sunrise at Kerry Park

Finally a Sunrise at Kerry Park

www.davidrironsjrphotography.com

Well it finally happened! A sunrise for me from Kerry Park! This is one of the most shot images of Seattle, and I know I have shot it to death, but still every sunrise is different! I have been working graveyards, so when the sunrises have been really going off, I have been watching from the sidelines at work! For the past three weeks, I have driven into Seattle just to get a great sunrise shot! I was rewarded with a grand show this morning.

I was furiously texting some of my fellow Flickr friends to see if they were coming up! Unfortunately for them, they were no where close by! I was going to post an earlier night time shot, but felt this was too good to pass up on the share. I will post an earlier shot sometime in the future, like when it is rainy and gray outside! There were about 30 or so photographers out there this morning too, but it was so cold, nobody was really interacting with each other. We were all so furiously concentrating on the light show that was unfolding before us! I did happen to bump into one of my Flickr contacts Rishi www.flickr.com/photos/30471166@N04/ , so we were able to talk for a few minutes!

This is a combination of three exposures (-3, -1,+1) merged and tonemapped in Photomatix. You may wonder why I went so underexposed...well it is because at +2, it was way too bright and was blowing out all highlights. I think I have finally mastered the brightness in the sky! I cropped in Photoshop and did a little dodging of the highlights and some burning of the midtones in the buildings. I then did final adjustments in Lightroom, specifically, some noise removal, slight sharpening and added vignette.

I hope all of my contacts have had a great start to the New Year. Thank you so much for your views, comments and faves! I appreciate them and am sorry if I don't always get back with a response.
