What a difference ten days makes...........

What a difference ten days makes...........

The transformation of Blue has been wonderful to behold, not just in terms of weight gain, but also in a drastic improvement in his behaviour. Blue is one of those dogs that is only too willing to learn and respond to training, making him a delight to have around.

When he first came into my home he was only too keen to attack the cats and the poultry, and he was none too well mannered with the other dogs either. It took just two days before I could have him loose with the cats while I was with him. Obnoxious cats did help in that respect, as Blue is a typical sighthound: a real big mardy baby who is particularly sensitive to pain. Let's face it, would you want to push your nose into a cats face if you knew that the cat would sink his claws into your head?! No, neither would I! :-) In ten days he has progressed so well that now when he sees a cat outside he no longer goes berserk straining on the lead to get at it; instead he stays calmly beside me and lets the cat walk up to him; he then just quietly sniffs it.

I can now walk him through the poultry without him desperately trying to attack. Yes, he is still interested in them, but not that blank glazed kill, kill, kill. I am sure with continued training he will eventually be able to be loose around them. The owners who abandoned this dog had no excuse whatsoever for him being out of control because he is so easy to train.

On Sunday he goes to his new home and I shall certainly be sorry to see this loving and responsive boy going out of my life. I know that his new carers will continue with his training and I am sure that they will never regret giving him a home.

If you are new to following Freshfields on flickr and don't know Blue's story, then see him when he was first admitted: www.flickr.com/photos/freshfieldswales/5776472502/in/phot...

Help feed a kitten.........

Help feed a kitten.........

A great new way for you to give to Freshfields: we can now take donations via text.

The sums you can donate are £1, £2, £3, £4, £5, or £10

You can ONLY donate the amounts listed above!

To donate to Wales you need to text WLSH11 followed by the amount to 70070

To donate to Liverpool you need to text LIVP11 followed by the amount to 70070

So will you give up that £1 chocolate bar to feed a kitten?
Or perhaps you can give up that pint of beer and donate £2.
Or cut back on a slice of cake at the local cafe and give £3.
How about forsaking a starter when you go out for a meal and donate £4.
Perhaps you could skip that new t-shirt and give £5.
Do you really need another CD? Why not listen to the radio and give £10 to feed a litter of kittens for a week.

Freshfields only exists with your support and the animals are extremely grateful for it, as are the people who care for them.

Bryn the lurcher needs a home..........

Bryn the lurcher needs a home..........

This beautiful lurcher called Bryn is due to be admitted at the beginning of next week after ending up on death row at the dog pound when his seven days were up. He will be coming to a foster home and will be being assessed to see what he is like with cats and other animals. From what we know so far, he is a beautiful gentle natured loving dog with humans. He is around 15 to 18 months old so still young and very trainable in the right hands, but he is a powerfully built dog and strong on the lead.

Could you offer him a home or do you know of anyone else that can? Please contact Lesley at Freshfields Wales on 01286 880 808
