Hu Tieu Sui Kau Xa Xiu.

Hu Tieu Sui Kau Xa Xiu.

This was our first time to Hue Ky Mi Gia. I had been eyeing it for awhile. Restaurants that are full or nearly full at all times of the day have tendency to grab my attention. If there's a constant line, even better. The service was exactly what I want and expect from a noodle soup place. The server was kind, knew about the menu, filled our empty tea pot quickly, and brought the food as soon as it was ready. Seems like you don't have to worry about soggy noodles or ill proportions at this place.

The menu basically boils down to a variety of options with egg or rice noodles or wide rice noodles in a soup or dry. (The duck only comes with egg noodles.) After a talk with the waiter I ordered the Hu Tieu Sui Kau Xa Xiu, a kind of wonton and bbq pork soup with wide rice noodles. The soup itself is good, rather bland, but good. I eventually added some chili oil to change it up a bit. The BBQ pork was very tender and moist, although, it was in soup so it should have been. The Sui Kau, appropriately filled with tasty ingredients all complementing a neutral base. The noodles were indeed, wide, but I found it odd that they were not long . Almost as wide as they were long….

It was as it looks. Always go with your first choice, even if everyone else is ordering it too.

Junko's braised duck noodle soup with Chinese herbs and spices at Hue Ky Mi Gia. I immediately wished I had ordered the duck even though I never order the duck, noodle soup or otherwise.

There have only been a few times that I have enjoyed duck, one time it was so rare my mom would have cried just sitting at the same table with it, the other times were unremarkable. I opted for the Hu Tieu Sui Kau Xa Xiu, which was good too, but that duck was falling off the chopstick tender, not gamey or oily. Well, not too oily anyway. I'm no expert, but this was delicious. I can't wait to have a bowl for myself.
