vintage family photo: everyone plus the dog

vintage family photo: everyone plus the dog by freeparking.
I'm sad about the damage, because I really love this vintage photo. I asked my grandma who these people were, also about lots of people in other photos, but she said a lot of the people she didn't know because they were part of my grandpa's side of the family before she got to know him. And grandpa's been dead a long time now. So they remain anonymous for now. Unless I find something in the future to let me know. After all, only recently did I find all of these vintage photos.

Updated info: After examining other vintage family photos and identifications, I know that the woman standing on the left is my great-grandmother, so the rest of the kids are probably her siblings, and the other two adults are probably my great-great-grandfather, and the old woman might be my great-great-great-grandmother (the man's mother?). But still, the only one I know for sure is great-grandmother. She died in the early 1970s. Anyway, they were all from Missouri.

It is a real shame about the damage, but oh well, it's better than nothing I guess! It's a really cool photo, I hope you can find out more about it!

I hope so, but I doubt it. I've never seen any of these people in other photos, unless maybe the kids are in other photos are adults. The mystery!

There is a group on here fix my picture I believe that may be able to have folks help you out in restoring it through the magic of photoshop. You might want to search for that group, join it and post this photo on it. Just make sure you have the original scan on your computer there. because the folks will fix it for you from what I understand.

I love looking at people's old family photos. I am busy trying to mark down notes about old photos from what I know about them so my kids will be able to identify them later on down the road. Nothing makes me sadder than when I see photos like these in thrift shops...people throwing away their past.

Thanks for sharing your family with us :-) Good luck in your quest in finding out their identities. When you do, make sure you post it here :-)

I can understand why people like doing that, trying to fix their photos. Doesn't appeal to me much, since for a picture like this someone would have to add stuff that isn't there. But I will adjust lightness and darkness and contrast when I think it's needed.

Glad you like the old photos. I'm happy to bring them out of their hiding in boxes (for decades!) and let them see the world.

Love history feel to the picture, thanks for sharing it :) It might be possible to identify some of the people of the portrait, if it's a family (and i'm guessing it is) if you can identify at least one or two people in the picture, and the area they were in by checking the census's for family names/ages to match them up... (Just don't get caught up in your genealogy, as it's quite a demanding mistress, lol)

As for adding things that aren't there, it's mainly a matter of recreating the man on the left's lips and adjusting the boys face beside him that might pose a bit of a problem, the missing section could be "cloned" from the rest of the viewable background area. Many repairs can be made by cloning what is in the picture already, not by adding "new"
to it. The crack can be removed....

Either way, touch it up or not, knowing their identity or not, It's still an enjoyable glimpse into the past...

I'd love to have a piece of my family's history like this example..

Melissa, I haven't visited this photo in some time. Since then, I now know that the woman standing on the left is my great-grandmother, who died in the 1970s. I'm assuming the others are all her family.

I know a lot of people are into "fixing" photos. I'm fine with just digitally recording what I have and leaving it at that. At least we have digital these days!

Thanks for the comment. :)

Fine treasure indeed.

You can always fix it up for other purposes but for now, this photograph has earned it's flaws. This is the way it looks. This tells a story. Good that you were able to preserve it before it got completely away.

Hi "Freeparking",

I love this picture. It's sad that it got folded and "broken" but, in spite of that, it still tells a wonderful story. I love to look at how people dressed in days long past. Look at the frills on the collars of the two young boys, even though they are wearing coveralls. And look at the dressy shoes on the little girl in the white dress. I bet that is a First Communion dress. And the eldest woman has a handkerchief tucked into her waistband!

Thanks so much for posting this treasure.

I just started a group for pictures just like this ~ pictures with family and history and stories. Would you consider joining my group and adding this, and any of your other old pictures? I named the group "Family History Stories".
