QALQILYA WALL/ PALESTINE

The ostensible purpose of the illegal wall between Israel and the West Bank is to protect Israeli citizens. However, the consequences for ordinary Palestinian people have been disastrous. Cutting deep into Palestinian territory, the wall siezes vital water resources and fertile land.
Thousands of houses have been destroyed and large parts of the Palestinian population have found themselves cut off from schools, health services and unable to reach their work. Poverty has increased drastically and the very possibility of a viable Palestinian state is under threat.

Mile after miles of barbed wire, electrified metal, sniper towers and concrete snake through the West Bank, stretching over double the length of the actual border. Trees are uprooted, villages cut off, houses destroyed and vital land, water and resources are lost. The wall is devastating virtually every aspect of Palestinian life.

The International Court of Justice has ruled the wall to be illegal, and the General Assembly of the UN has repeatedly and overwhelmingly supported a resolution calling for the immediate cessation of construction. Despite this Israel continues to ignore its international obligations and has proceeded with the barrier.
