Early Pioneer, John Freemont Smith commissioned the construction of two commercial properties in Kamloops. Thankfully, one of those properties still exists. The Freemont Block (1911) has become a landmark that symbolizes the true heart of perseverance and humble determination.

The Freemont Block is a commercial (mixed-use) heritage property, located in downtown Kamloops, British Columbia.

The building respectfully turned 100 yrs old (2011).

This brick block building has undergone numerous changes in its century of existence. It was first used by Mr. Smith as his office and place of business and also served as a commercial building to many entrepreneurs since then. It is now occupied by:

- Two street-level businesses.
- Two loft-level residential tenants on the second floor.
- And two service-oriented businesses at the back of the upper levels.

On November 30, 2011, the building was temporarily converted into a 'living arts' space to commemorate, celebrate, and critically investigate the history of the block, the city, and the region.
