Thomas Bateman Rosseter FRMS
This is my grandfather in his Freemason's attire. He was a respected Fellow of the Royal Microscopical Society in the late 19th century: so far I've found an article of his in the December 1886 Journal of the Society entitled "Trichondina as an Endoparasite".
My father wrote of him: "An extraordinary man. By trade an hotel manager and club steward, he was a leading English microscopist and held the honorary degree of Doctor in Illinois University. He spoke French fluently. He was a leading Kent Freemason, being a member of St Augustine's Lodge 972, Canterbury. He died, aged 79, in 1922 and is buried in Canterbury Cemetry."
