Hey Flickr,
School's out and I have entered the creative black hole that is summer. No assignments, no deadlines, no expectations. I use my summers to reset, to sort the creative wheat from the chaff. I've found myself starting to hate my 'art'/conceptual work more and more just because of what it is pushing my mindset into so for now I'm avoiding 'serious' work. As the great Pete McD would say, 'Maybe it's time to let the camera follow you for a change.' and that's what I'm doing. Happiness can be as simple as we allow it to be.

Moments like this make me realise what makes me happy. It's not making conceptual, inaccessible 'art' for other 'artists' to appreciate. It's finding the simple things I love. I don't know where I stand with photography anymore. Sometimes it's all I have and sometimes I hate it for that. I feel like not lifting a camera for a while. Or trying stuff that I have pushed aside for a while. Nevertheless, I hope to either drop pictures/videos of some adventures up here or over on my blog during the summer :)

Today I did my first outdoor wall abeil and ascend. Facing that fear of having to trust entirely on your gear was something keeping me from jumping into climbing properly but today was great! :) This is Richard, he's a pretty cool guy. You should probably check out his blog. He doesn't normally have weapons with him in the Mournes, honest :)

This picture is part of a series so make sure to click through to see the others. It was a little sub-project I did while in the pre-production stages of Hope Through Severance which dealt with a struggle I was having between doing expensive, high-production and what I thought was 'legitimate' photoshoots and using post-production to materialise what I could see in my head. This was probably one of the biggest, most ambitious ideas I've ever had for a photo idea, period. It would have stayed as just that as well had I not had the genuine encouragement from from my friends and one of my tutors in uni. It's amazing what can happen when we're just a little more courageous with eachother.

Long time no speak flickr :)

I have a new project up on cargocollective called "Bounderies". It's different from my usual (I don't normally do narrative documentary) but it's on something that means a lot to me. A transition, some adventure and happiness. I walked into the project with just the intention of photographing a hobby but it unraveled in a way I wasn't anticipating :)
