Last days of summer (25th September)

    Newer Older

Within a few days the red Virginia creeper leaves will fall and for us this will signal the start of autumn "proper".

After a glorious September, it will also soon be time to start dismantling the begonia flower displays and put the tubers into storage.

.......then, like a relay race, the Japanese maples, with their change of colour, will become our autumn flowers!

The red foliage is from the plant Photinia × fraseri ‘Red Robin’

So very beautiful. For me there was always something a little melancholy about autumn because it was the climax of the season and then the barrenness of winter. But winter at Four Seasons Garden is not barren at all -- the flamboyance of autumn merely gives way to the last act of the yearly show. It is always beautiful.
