Seeing the Universe Above the Forest
We went to scope out a dark skies location between Baggs and Encampment Wyoming and came away happily impressed with the low light pollution we found in the Sierra Madre Mountains. Cloud cover moved in not long after this take on the Milky Way and brought my session to a premature close, so I will have to go back for more night photography in this promising location!

Simply amazing Michael.

I would like to say that the line of trees makes it... but it wouldn't be totally true as without the milkyway, I guess the trees would be meaningless.

very good. I am surprised that at 17mm there is obviously no significant movement at 30sec. Great shot, will try that as soon as I get to a quiet place...

The small amount of clouds do add a little mystery to it, though. I love the colors and the thin tree line.

That area is indeed very dark. I checked once on Google Earth with that NASA thing and that area between Baggs and Encampment/Riverside is probably one of the darkest that I have [somewhat] easy access to. I love the clouds, even though they ruined your imaging session. You might also check out the area around FoxPark as they have an annual "weekend under the stars" astro party up there and the skies up there are pretty dark too. That's real close to where the University of Wyoming's Infrared obersvatory on Jelm mountain is located.
Awesome shot!

WOW. Fantastic shot. Not too many places you can see the Milky Way so well. I had a sky like that in Monument Valley and it was incredible.

A stunning and magnificent nightscape Michael. Those tree silhouettes set up the scene so well and those skies are enchanting. You packed a lot in in 30 seconds. Masterfully done friend.

I really like the tree silhouettes with the night sky.
I think the single line of profile really gives good perspective, and the concave sweep of the ground helps hihglight the Milky Way.
Looks like some beautiful dark skies!
