A Beaver Full Moon

Looks like the eye of a seed
A Beaver Full Moon by Fort Photo.
This year's Beaver Full moon from November 24, 2007. You can view it large on black here.

Notes: This isn't how I would normally shoot the full moon but it made for a fun test of the D300. I shot 1/800th handheld at ISO 1600 with High ISO NR set to low using a Nikkor 300 mm F/4 with a 1.4x converter. The level of detail preserved at this ISO is great, and likely could have been even better with NR completely off.

You are having WAY too much fun with your new toy!

I'm not sure I would have even thought to try a handheld shot of the moon.

Beautiful shot, and a great illustration of the capabilities of the new tools. I tried a handheld moon shot too, with similar results.
Moon

I thought the Hunter's Moon was in Oct this year?

,

You know what, you are completely correct! Thanks for that, and also thanks to Brian as well. I just was remembering it as being in Nov. Upon some research I found the Hunter's Moon does occur in early Nov. at times, but is often in late Oct. as it was this year. So indeed, this is a Full Beaver Moon.

Awesome, Michael. Love the color of the moon. Not the whitish ball you usually see on photos. Good job on the handheld, as well.

Awesome moon shot. I'm no good at taking full moons...so this impresses me. The settings you took it at worked great. Not noisy at all. Nice detail and exposure. Well done.
