Surveyed the Tropical Gardens of Maui in Iao Valley today. Choke palms and scores of other plants that will take us a while to put names on.
Checked out the plant on the ground right behind us, a Lupinus sp. It was sterile. Must be in a million photos.
We identify ants for Little Fire Ant surveys on Maui. Our code name for the project is "squinting at dust".

This thing can pick up giant logs like they're chopsticks.

Looking for native Omiodes moths. It didn't take long to determine they were here.

Native Omiodes blackburni moths on Pritchardia at Waihee Refuge. Note chewed leaves, webbing, frass, and pupae.
Cool mat of 'jellybean' form akulikuli at Waihee Refuge.
Kahului, West Maui, and Molokai were visible this morning.
Trail and young plantings in our gulch in Olinda. The most visible tree is koaia. Planted some palapalai ferns yesterday.

Went for a hike in Waihee today, looking for insects. Took a little dip in the river too.
Growing with dodder. Waihee Dunes and Wetland Preserve, West Maui.
