LeopardDVDPlayer by Forced Perfect.
For those who misinterpreted Leopard's DVD Player requirement of 1.6 GHz for even simple playback:

This is a DVD playing on a 400 MHz G4 under Leopard.

The 1.6 GHz requirement is ONLY for the new de-interlacing features!

How did you even get it to install on a 400Mhz? It says it requires 867Mhz or more! :D

A guide on Mac Rumors explains how to install it.

Yes, 800 x 600! It's a crappy PC monitor I use for my second display on my main machine, which is also connected to a switch box for the second computer.

wow! Hotline? I don't understand why people jump the gun and say 'ohh. you need a fairly decent Mac in order to do DVD playback.'

My DP 1.25Ghz G4 can do better quality de-interlacing under Leopard.

I don't think I get any quality on my G4 MDD (1.25 GHz) as I have a non-Core Image Radeon 9000 Pro. Anyone have a better video card they aren't using? :)

I remember the R9000 Pro. Well.. if it's a dedicated file server for you, it's good enough. =)

BTW, are you be able to make your MDD in headless mode? My G5 works, but my MDD doesn't like it.

Do you plan to upgrade the CPU on your G4?

I've just installed Leopard on my Sawtooth 400 MHz G4 w/ 896 MB RAM and it runs OK. DVD will not work on the default AGP video, so I've ordered an ATI 9700 for it. I figured that RAM and Video horsepower would be more valuable than CPU speed alone.

As my G4/400 is just used on my LAN for file storage, I won't be putting any more into it (aside from more drives and the gigabit Ethernet card I have on the way).

Rarely do I see much value in upgrading most CPUs as newer systems generally have many new features that make it worth the extra money for a new system. This is especially true with Intel Macs as one can get a new Mini which will outperform any G4 for the price of an upgrade.

@Mini_K It's not actually headless, I have a monitor connected to an A/B switch between it and my main system. When booting I switch control of the monitor to that machine so it can detect it.

Peter,

Just a quick note to you on my upgrade to an ATI Radeon 9700 on my Sawtooth 400 MHz G4. What an improvement over the original card. DVDs play with no problem and other Leopard apps now run such a Front Row. Very cool. Thanks for leading the way with the video card upgrade idea.

I kind of want to make my MDD as headless, so that I can utilize my G5. Heard about the gHead adapter, but I'm not sure if it's the best solution.

The R9700 Pro is a good video card and it's hard to find for the Apple BTO one.
