This Iowan born and raised thinks you're off to a great '08 start, Sen. Edwards. (Live in NYC now. I flew out of Des Moines having visited folks for xmas same day you arrived. Hope the Hawkeye State gave you a warm welcome.)

John, when you come to New Orleans next time talk about what really happened here after Katrina--the breaches in the levees caused by the complete ineptitude (scientifically and morally) of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the failure of FEMA to complete its mission (still to this day), the no-bid contracts given out to Halliburton et al., just like the raw deal no-bid contracts distributed in Iraq to Halliburton et al. Spending $70K per trailer--yes, per trailer!--is absurd. The money to rebuild New Orleans was there all along. It's just been pissed away. There's two Americas, but I see it more as intersecting halves, more in common than not. You can't see that any more clearly than in New Orleans.

When I heard you talk to George Stephanopolous about your difficulty with marriage equality because of what you learned growing up as a kid my stomach turned - are we really to expect that you can't learn what's right if you were taught wrong as a child?
