Designer Luly Yang's butterfly dress

    Newer Older

This is Luly Yang's trademark dress, a monarch butterfly translated to silk, & also the first dress she designed 10 years ago, as a contest entry. It brought about a change in career from graphic designer to couture designer with an international following.

Thanks, Nancy . . . . I was attempting to straighten & brighten the photo a wee bit, but something went awry when I saved it, so it appeared as a new copy. I think there is a lot of interest in this dress right now, for some reason . . . just lately the views on the other version of this pic have been zooming up by a couple dozen some days, mostly from people finding it on Google & such. Wish I got up to Seattle more often to capture some of her other window displays, as I know just what you mean about them.

      Here's the cross reference:

Even l can see that's quite some dress Laurie, shudder to think of the price tag!

The price tag is referenced in a comment with the companion version of the picture . . . seems to me it's around $25,000.

Fabulous. From the thumbnail it could well be a (real) butterfly.

Saw the segment of American Photography: A Century of Images that included fashion photographers (Avedon and Steicher, I think) and the effect of their work on us last night. Your image immediately popped into my head and stayed there for the rest of the documentary. This shot really is quite extraordinary.

What a shame she copied 'Lime st Lil' - Lilmy Lil was wearing this 30 years ago - to atract the sailors off the docks - but eh good look to her/him/it, copying a Scouser

      I know, I know . . . ya Scousers invented EVERYTHING . . . . .c];-)

HOLY CATS!!!! What the devil prompted 643 views of this yesterday??!!!! Both pics of this dress seem to be very popular, but this is extraordinary . . . . sorry guys, I'm just momentarily stunned - - let me pic my jaw up off of the floor . . . c];-)

What fun! If you Google Luly butterfly dress it's on the third row of the images results--maybe they just added it? Do you get your statistics? Sometimes you can tell who the referrer is (mostly you can't, though). I remember when I first saw this image of it--it's a good one!

I know . . . I've gotten used to that part. It's the other pic, the one that isn't "doctored" that is in the top row there - - it's been on page one for awhile now, but just recently moved up to the top line. That one is headed for the 5000 views group. This one is sort of secondary & until yesterday had just shy of 1700, so as you can see from that, to get 643 in one day is unprecedented. I can generally tell when there is a big wedding show, or something going on with Luly Yang's design line, as there is always a bit of an uptick . . . . but NEVER anything like this. Oddly enough, 39% were from Flickr, which is a little unusual. More than that though, I can't tell. Eh, it's all very interesting.
