It's late Saturday night. I can't sleep, so I turn on my computer and look at pix from the days performance that have been put up on Flickr. I hear people outside my window, talking and laughing quietly, then suddenly BLAM BLAM two gunshots, people are screaming, I hear a man's voice say "I'm shot!" it's 3:55am. I call 911 and say don't ask me any more questions just get here, a man is bleeding out there. I open the window, terrified, not knowing if the shooter is there still and whisper to him, sprawled across the pavement, trying to push himself up but not able to: 'Don't die, they're coming. Don't die".
The ambulance arrives quickly and the swarm of tactical cops. Twelve hours of surgery later, my neighbor survives.
