General note: Now home to the Henry Plant Museum on the campus of the University of Tampa, the Tampa Bay Hotel was built by railroad magnate Henry Plant beginning in 1888. The hotel closed in 1930, and in 1941 the city Tampa began leasing the building to the University of Tampa for $1.00 per year.
