Yeah, I agree totally with Gabi (although I've never been to NYC). I've always wanted a place with one of those fire escapes - we don't have them over here. They always seem so God damn glamorous, to me.

Andrea, I'm not sure glamorous would be a word I'd use, but I do have a lot of affection for them. I wonder how many lives they save ... probably a lot.

Funny how one of the first things that pops into my head at the words "fire escape" is that line from billy Bragg's "Greetings to the New Brunette": "when we sat out on the fire escape talking". Which I think of as a tremendously English song.
