the view from the top

the view from the top by flogently.
5,895 meters (19,340 ft), Uhuru Peak, Mt. Kilimanjaro, Kilimanjaro National Park, Tanzania

I reached the summit at 2:30 pm on August 15, 2008 with my mother and 4 friends.
Two other members of our group summited the next morning.

Mom, I love you and thank you for everything.
You never cease to amaze and inspire me.

Thanks to everyone in our group for making such a diverse, positive, and interesting team.

We couldn't have done it without the expertise and sound leadership of our Tusker Trail guides and the strength of our hard-working porters.

WOW! This is so beautiful and you had such a gorgeous day. I love that feeling of being up high, on top of the world. I've only climbed little mountains so I can only imagine how strong and accomplished ( and exhausted ) you must have felt at the summit. Congrats on making it to the top!!!

On the right hand side in the middle of the photo it looks like there is another high peak in the distance, is there?

We are off to Nepal on Sunday, I won't be climbing Everest though.

Hi Mika-rin, let me know if you're ever coming through Hiroshima during hiking season, maybe we can climb a mountain together :)

dickdecent, all I have to say is -- HA!

charlie, you're right, it probably is the closest *I'll* ever get to space without being on a plane ;)

Okay dickdecent, I take that HA back -- if someone ever wanted to fund a bunch of my time off for training and then pay for all my expenses and gear, then I just might consider risking my life and feeling crappy every day for the beautiful views and feeling of accomplishment. But since that's all very unlikely, I should probably just stick with HA and add another one for good measure -- ha ha!

Yukie, thanks so much for coming with me for some mountain-climbing training -- you're awesome!

Naoko, we'll really have to try and make it to all six peaks of Sambe on a different day -- thanks so much for being a part of my training :)

Kim, I can't wait to see your photos from Nepal!! And really, it's true, there's nothing like getting to the top of a mountain and knowing that it was your own energy that got you there!

Hawkeye, do you remember which route you took? I went from the west, via Lemosho.
