This is a truly awesome winter shot!!!!!!!!

Pudsey St Lawrence

Built in 1821 and opened in 1824 at a cost of £13,360. Mr Taylor of Leeds was the builder.
The 8 church bells were cast by Mears of London. The Tenor bell weighs around 16cwt.
At the east end of the church (this is from my research although from the diagram I would say this was the west side) there is a double five light pointed window, with plain mullions. It is filled with stained glass.
The 1st from Top/Left depicts St Matthew, bearing the inscription
In memory of Thomas Banks, born Oct 7, 1779. died Sept 2, 1851.

The 2nd Refers to St Mark -
In memory of Mary Maria Jefferson Feby 22, 1797 to April 18, 1865

The 3rd - The ascension -
Thos Farrar Esq, of Grove House Pudsey who died Jan 17, 1867 aged 74 years.

I could go on.... instead here's a link:

www.us.archive.org/GnuBook/?id=historyantiqui ti00rayn#91

By following this link it tells of the Pipe organ, the church yard and loads of olde stuff that i've not had chance to read yet. It tells that Pudsey was once around 600 AD the centre of a small kingdom.

Hi Mark *waves*! Thanks so much for all that info - it's really interesting. I hear the church chime at night from my house and it's so lovely. The OH is a Pudsarian, so he'll really enjoy reading this too :)

Ha - that's just like my OH's family. They can trace 4 generations back on either side to within a 5 mile radius of here (although many of the houses are now demolished - Leeds back-to-backs). Me... I'm from the other side of the hills - mighty Blackpool!
