GSW's WWII-Era Photos

All photos in this collection were taken by then Lt. and later Capt. George S. White, my Father, while he was serving in the Pacific as a pilot. They are generally between 1945 and 1948 from what is documented.
They are all being scanned in as I have time, restored at some level, and posted. I try to figure out what they are but genuinely appreciate the help I have gotten because typically I do not know where the photos were taken or details of what the subject was unless he added a caption. It will take awhile still so we all have to be patient - particularly me. Some are paper prints and some are negatives. In the case of negatives, I've tried to get them correct, but if someone sees obvious mirror-flips I've missed, let me know.
I will improve the organization as I get to better understand what could help.

7/22/07- cleaning up and adding some tags; flipped the two known mirrors
7/30/07 started scanning Book2 of the negatives - taken between 1946 and 1948 in Sumatra, Java, Luzon, Okinawa, Japan while he was stationed at Clark AFB.
8/16 update - started scanning Neg Book3 but have only processed a few so no uploads yet.
01Sept07 Book3 done; started scanning negative Book 4. captions are still missing or possibly wrong in 2,3,& 4, but will eventually get fixed.

2008 February 12 - The airstrip in GSW_4x5_2400_006mm is finally identified thanks to a huge amount of research by P-38L5L0!

I have scanned and not processed the rest of Book 6, and am scanning in the Pilot Log, which goes slowly due to the mold. Still have more [moldy] paper prints to go as well.

18 June 2008 - this collection of pictures and negatives survived thru my childhood thanks to my mother, many years of storage while I was overseas working, and then more years here until I was able to look at them. I cannot believe someone in the future will be able to take a 60-year-old hard drive, full of 60-year-old file formats and get anything useful out of it without a major initiative and investment of time and money. Pretty scary.

I hope to get back to the pilot's log and working on scanning soon.

19 July 2008 - restarted restoring and uploading remaining photos from Negative Book 6.
