Off I Go

Off I Go

It's time to head off on my next adventure. Tomorrow morning I fly out for Peru. The experience has already been a little tumultuous and I haven't even left yet, so I guess we'll see if it's a great experience or a disaster.

This takes me back to my last South America trip (Patagonia, where I shot this Chliean flamingo), which also had its ups and downs. Come to think of it, all of my South America trips have had issues. Hmm...

Hopefully I can post an update or two from the road, but if not I'll see y'all in February!

Angel of Death

Angel of Death

I had a great day conducting a short-eared owl workshop up in the Skagit Valley today. Couldn't ask for better weather, more cooperative subjects, or a nicer client. This owl was great. At times it circled within 20 feet of us, giving us countless photo ops until it finally caught itself a meal.

Over the Fields

Over the Fields

I've just published my Best of 2011 collection, which includes this image of a short-eared owl gliding over a field on a cool December morning. I loved the colors in this scene.

I'm heading back up to the Skagit Valley for a private workshop in the morning, so hopefully we'll have this kind of luck with the owls and other birds!

A Best of 2011 selection.

A snowy owl acts like just another stalk of grass at sunrise out at Damon Point.

This and another of my images were recently featured in a piece in the Billings Gazette on the snowy owl irruption. Read it here.
