CELEBRITY CHEF ROBERT IRVINE VISITS BOOKER T. WASHINGTON HIGH SCHOOL IN COLLABORATION WITH THE FIU HERBERT WERTHEIM COLLEGE OF MEDICINE
Celebrity chef and lifestyle speaker Robert Irvine recently visited Booker T. Washington Senior High School to meet with students and the creators of the Overtown Cookbook, a collaborative project between the high school, FIU’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine’s Green Family Foundation NeighborhoodHELPTM and the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management.

Students in the afterschool program presented Chef Irvine with a dedicated and signed copy of cookbook and participated in a dialogue about their challenges with healthy eating and the impact they can have on their families and community. They also toured the school’s vegetable garden, planted by the students, which is a source of fresh produce for the program.

The following day the high school students accompanied Chef Irvine to the ‘Fit & Fun as a Family’ event held at Jungle Island during The Food Network’s South Beach Food & Wine Festival where they cooked healthy recipes from the Overtown Cookbook in a 1,000-seat auditorium.
