the quick answer is to just walk around looking for someone fanatically shooting the R from this sort of angle. it is trickier to figure it out from the picture, but here's a hint: I took this from my fire escape, with a 135mm lens on a half-frame digital camera. I did not cheat by fucking with the perspective in post.

so I think all you'd need would be the street plans of the area, the aproximate dimensions of the R building with the R, and a drafting table and accoutrements (scale, C-THRU ASE36, some kind of pencil*, etc). you'd have a hard time going from sun angles with this particular R shot because I did adjust the curves, plus I think the EXIF is gone; the truly masochistic élite draftsman is welcome to prove me wrong.
