Cofeb o flodau i lowyr Pwll Glo Gleision, Pontardawe, Cwm Tawe

"The Gleision Colliery mining accident occurred in the Gleision Colliery drift mine in the valley of the River Tawe, north of Swansea, West Glamorgan on 15 September 2011. Seven miners were working a narrow seam and using explosives at the coal face. After an explosion at 09.21, the passage in which the miners were working rapidly filled with a large quantity of water. Three miners were immediately able to escape to the surface; one of these was taken by ambulance to Morriston Hospital.

The South Wales Fire and Rescue Service requested the assistance of Mines Rescue units from Wales and across the United Kingdom, with the aim of rescuing the remaining four miners trapped at a depth of 90 metres (300 ft) below the surface. On 16 September South Wales Police confirmed that all four of the miners had died. All family members were informed of the situation. Formal identification has not yet been made, although the miners were named as Charles Breslin, 62; David Powell, 50; Garry Jenkins, 39; and Phillip Hill, 45"

Digwyddodd Trychineb Glofa'r Tarenni Gleision (neu Glofa'r Gleision) ar y 15ed o Fedi, 2011; lleolir y lofa ger pentref Cilybebyll, Cwm Tawe. Roedd saith glöwr wrth eu gwaith mewn gwythïen o lo ac fel canlyniad i ffrwydrad dan-reolaeth, llifodd dŵr drwy'r creigiau. Dihangodd tri ohonynt am eu bywydau ac i fyny i'r wyneb. Cymerwyd un o'r rhain yn syth i Ysbyty Treforus yn Abertawe. Mae "glesion" yn ansoddair lluosog y gair "glas".

Glofa Gleision ydy un o’r ychydig byllau glo lleiaf sydd ar ôl yng Nghymru sy'n cael ei weithio drwy ddulliau hen ffasiwn, a hynny gan ddim ond saith dyn yn defnyddio ceibiau yn ogystal â ffrwydron i dorri’r glo; llwythant y tramiau efo llaw.

Gweithiodd y Frigâd Dân a Thîm Achub y Glowyr ar y cyd 90m (300tr) o dan yr wyneb. Bu'n rhaid i arbenigwyr o Dîm Achub y Glowyr balu drwy goed, mud a hylif dwst glo er mwyn ceisio canfod y glowyr.[1] Cyrhaeddodd y gwasanaethau brys y pwll yn fuan iawn wedi i bobl sefyllfa fod damwain wedi digwydd. Ar 16 Medi 2011 cadarnhaodd llefarydd ar ran Heddlu De Cymru fod cyrff y pedwar glowyr wedi'u darganfod fesul un: Charles Breslin, 62; David Powell, 50; Garry Jenkins, 39; a Phillip Hill, 45. Cyhoeddwyd y cynhelir ymchwiliad ac agorir cronfa.[
