Desert Island Collection - Top 24 - Books by Feuillu.
Even harder an execice as for music and movies, these are the 24 books I would take on a desert island. Lots are missing (see at the end) but these have had deep impacts on me and have been my favs over the years. No particular order. For all the listed books, I enjoy most works of the corresponding writers but I had to choose one.

Franz Kafka - Le Procés / The Trial
Georges Perec - La vie mode d'emploi
JMG Le Clezio - Le Procés-Verbal
EM Cioran - De l'inconvénient d'être né
Charles Baudelaire - Les Fleurs du Mal
René Daumal - Le Mont Analogue

Michel Leiris - Aurora
Herman Hesse - Le Jeu des Perles de Verre
Boris Vian - L'Automne à Pékin
F. Nietzsche - Ainsi parlait Zarathoustra
JK Huysmans - A Rebours
Joseph Heller - Catch 22

Norman Spinrad - Bug Jack Barron
Lautréamont - Les Chants de Maldoror
R. Zelazny - The Chronicles of Amber
Philip K Dick - UBIK
Louis Pauwels et Jaques Bergier - Le Matin des Magiciens
Charles Bukowski - Play the piano like a percussion instrument until the fingers begin to bleed

Philip Roth - The Human Stain
Daniel Pennac - Aux fruits de la passion
John Brunner - Stand on Zanzibar
Charles Mingus - Beneath the underdog
Louis Ferdinand Celine - Voyage au bout de la nuit
John Irving - A prayer for Owen Meany

Great books and writers are missing that were of my first selection: Dostoievsky, Villiers de l'Isle Adam, Raymond Queneau, Alfred Jarry, Alexandre Vialatte, Stéphane Mallarmé, Jules Barbey d'Aurevilly, Raymond Roussel, Samuel Beckett, James Joyce, André Breton, Thomas Hardy, Garbriel Garcia Marquez, John Fowles, Umberto Eco, Andres Ibanes, Douglas "Godel, Escher, Bach" Hofstadter, Lawrence Durrell, Michel Onfray, William Gibson, Jorge Luis Borges, John Dos Passos, Thomas Mann, Jack Kerouack, Malcolm Lowry, Henry Miller..... and many more.

All these (but one) are covers of books I own.

Billy, thanks the long comment and it's an honor to be on your blog. You have quiet a book culture reading your comment. Funny you mentionned "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich" I reread it recently as my daugther studied at school. Remainsl very powerful. Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn could have been in my list 'The First Circle" !

PS. Please tell me you're not leaving FlickR. That would be very sad.

Huysmans and Heller, Baudelaire and Dick--very suggestive choices. Haven't even finished reading the list carefully, but had to applaud you on those.

I know a Norman Spinrad book: Agent of Chaos. Love its idea, but can't count it as a great book. Is Bug Jack Barron really so good you'd make it 1 of 24? I guess so, else it wouldn't be here. I hope I can read it sometime.

This group is another of your good ideas, maybe the best yet. I'm so busy I may not join it, since I don't have time to make a photo collage of my picks. But I applaud.

Hello John, Thanks for all the nice comments. I can see you're busy ..No picture from for over a month :-( I hope it's a good thing to be that busy.

As for music and for movies, I enjoy lots of different styles including SF. Zelazny, Brunner or Dick are my favs but that one Spinrad really struck a chord with me. It may not with you. You'll tell me.

What a selection! And recommendation for those I don't know. This exercise works well for books, but for music it may be too subjective. I can't stand The Beatles or opera. I'd rather listen to a road drill... :-)

groups exists for music and movies too... now it is more or less subjective ? I'm unsure.. for music, with the recommendations, you can listen to musical excerpts and have an idea... also, looking at a music selection... if you know and like some of the selection, then there is a good chance you'll like some of the rest.

Looking for your book selection soon ?
