Bath Time

Bath Time

We met two lovely old elephants in the small village of Tadlo, Southern Laos. They are sisters and come from near the town of Salavan.

Although they are still working elephants, they seem to have a pretty good life. They take people on short treks through the jungle, and the rest of the time they can pretty much do as they please. They are not tied up, the handlers don't use sticks or whips to control them, they just rub the backs of their ears so they know which way to go. Every night after they finish work, they are taken down to the river for a bath.

Even though their massive feet support their huge bodies, they walk with such a gentle touch - it's really amazing just watching them move around.
