Meteor

Out tonight photographing the global rainbow display @ Whitly bay & saw this bright light hurtling across the sky & quickly turned the camera to capture it as it flew overhead.

The little line at the bottom of shot is the top of the "spanish city" building at Whitly bay.
ISO 640 & 30 sec wasn't the best settings but I just turned & took the shot before it flew past completely!!!!
With the naked eye I could see it white hot with an orange tail & really low in the sky. I thought it was a massive firework rocket until Iain & Mel that were with me said it was a meteor!!!

    Exif data
Camera Canon EOS 5D Mark II
    Exposure 30 sec
    Aperture f6.3
    Focal Length 17 mm
    ISO Speed 640

I wonder if it was the same 1 me and montoff saw while sitting having a bag of chips, I'm glad others have seen it, gutted I wasn't shooting, well done catching this, it was canny mad. we where at the fish quay and watched it cross above hour heads at what seemed quite low, with a long burning tale, we watched it head over into south tyneside until it vanished

And that was 30 seconds? I have never seen anything quite like it - Meteors are always so fast? Well done capturing it Mike!

Thats sweet Mick, when me, Dru and Michael were there we seen sumic strange aswell. It was out to sea, something red pulsing but unlike a plane/copter the previous red pulse didnt vanish so there ended up about 5 red dots before they all vanished.....

Brilliant capture Mike, was amazing to see this. As you say, at first it looked like a fire work but I quickly realized the speed was all wrong and so I guessed it was a meteorite or some space junk returning. Well done on having the quick reactions to turn and fire a shot off while we just stood there and watched it!
It was a real pleasure to finally meet you in person mate, hope to catch up with you again soon.

Well done Mick it's a great image and perfect opportunist capture. I've read all about it all the papers this morning but no one has an image of it. Get it off to Sky, BBC and all the papers ASAP mate they'll print this in a heartbeat.

It was amazing to see, none of us could believe what we had seen, it was so low and flew straight over the top of us. You did well to get this mate, I just stood there awestruck!!
