Art in the Pages Mini-Statuettes |
Art in the Pages is a first-time public art sculpture
initiative taking place throughout
Fairfax County and the City of Fairfax.
The project consists of large scale open
book statues that have been transformed
into vibrant works of art by local
artists. These individually decorated
sculptures are on display at every
public library branch throughout Fairfax
County and the City of Fairfax, plus
other selected public locations and
businesses in the community.
This unique public art initiative
endeavors to increase the awareness of
the joy of public art, spotlights the
delights of literature and reading,
showcases the creativity, originality
and wit of local artists, and builds
community fellowship through shared
enjoyment of public art sculptures that
transcend age, education, and ethnicity.
Art in the Pages is a collaboration of the Fairfax Library Foundation, the Fairfax County Public Library, and
many sponsors, including Signature
Sponsor Verizon.
Displayed on this web page are rare Art in the Pages mini-statuettes. These colorful (fondly
referred to as) ‘minis’ were designed by
local artists. On September 20, 2008, at
a reception hosted by Gannett, attendees
had the opportunity to view and bid on
these artistically decorated 5” high
miniature statuettes at a silent
auction. The silent auction proceeds
benefited Fairfax County Public Library
programs and services, such as live
online Homework Help, the popular Summer
Reading Program, the Friends Scholarship
Fund and more funded by the Fairfax
Library Foundation.
