Meeka and Tai: the young lady and the dancer

The first shot of a quite long series for Meeka and Tai, two teenagers coming from Toronto and now living in London. Their mother wanted a portfolio for each of them, so Fabiana and I went into a studio and worked to get the best of of these two smart guys.

It is the second time we photographed teenagers and, for how open minded they can be, gaining their trust in order to capture their nature is quite hard. Not everyone reacts in the same way. This time talking with them did not do the trick, they were extremely cautious, but when we got in the studio I decided to download the first shots on the laptop and, taking a break to set the lights as we needed, we showed the photos to them. That was the breaking moment, more than simply showing the photos from the back of the camera: they started smiling and laughing and they gifted us with their trust.

It has been fun, even if after almost six hours of preparations and shooting Fabiana and I were quite tired, we were extremely happy! Discussing with Fabiana, we agree on the fact that shooting teenagers, despite the initial difficulties in gaining trust from them (Peter Pan, Fabiana called them), is very fun: they are real, they have those sparkles in their eyes and they do not shield themselves behind a (usually grey) wall of experiences.
