this is my least favourite mosque in Beirut down town, the mosque of Emir Munzir is the best. I don't like the tastless additions to the Omari mosque either, they have no respect for the architectural heritage of that building... They made it look like Riyadh Airport!

This particular mosque is extremely disproportionate itself (for the height it should have been much wider) and to anything in the Martyr square and has quite distorted the skyline and space around it (which is further being desecrated by new building projects adjacent to Saifi village)... The mosque doesn't respect the architectural heritage of the area around it (except for the color of the fake stone facades), and was made for political muscle flexing! Many prominent architects such as the previous head of the Order of Engineers heavily criticized it... BUT in the face of politics and polarization everything is legitimate as usual!

Far now I uploaded 3 photos, some day I'll upload more.
Do you know Al-Majeediya? I was there in summer holidays 2007.
There is an old minaret and a new one. I don't know if I was in the old or new part of the mosque, but it's also beautiful.
