The Haymarket Riot ? The officers on the scene who paid with their life on the 4th of May 1886 and the 59 who were wounded, men detailed to the event by the randomness of fate. The officers were victims as much as those who were tried and imprisoned or hung. The haymarket produced many victims on all sides of the law. The events of 1886 are best viewed thinking in terms 1886 criminal justice system. The trial was deemed flawed enough for Gov. Altgeld to ruin in political career by pardoning the remaining 3 in prison of those who were tried.
