Uploaded mainly for a story on Absolute Michigan.
That's Jesse LaCross hitching the team to a log. We decided to go with horse-based logging after seeing what amazing damage the mechanized skidder logging did to our neighbor's woods.
As an aside to an aside, Rick, the forester from the Grand Traverse Conservation District, never said a word as we watched the guy running the skidder tear the heck out of the hillside to get unstuck. Just said "well, there's horse logging" when we asked if there was any alternative.
I cannot recommend strongly enough hiring a forester if you are thinking about logging your property. You will get more money in the long term and a much better "plan" for managing your woods, both for health and profit.
