human nature
the final of my second assignment for my digital media class, the theme was to show trickery or some sort of photo manipulation whether it be subtle or obvious. so i created a series of overlays of smiling faces with growing plants. (almost) all of these photos have actually already been on my stream but i just thought i'd share the final product anyway.

tina
woke up early to head down to granville island with an old friend, a good friend, a friend and a stranger. it was a long long day of confusing buses, fresh fruit, good food, running away from birds (have i mentioned how much i dislike and fear them), changing musicians, thick gelatto smiles, ugly dolls, windy hair, and getting to know the good company.

i can't make you love me
i've uploaded both separate layers before, but i figured i might as well make an overlay out of it.

things i'll never say #23
every time you go somewhere alone, i'm scared you might not come back... i'm scared to lose another parent
i decided to bring the "things i'll never say" project with me along to vancouver. there are many photos in this series i've taken, 99 to be exact, but 2 of them were jokes, so i suppose the count goes down to 97 now. but this photo, this secret, is one that's hit me hardest. i went into this project thinking it would be a fun little thing to do, but i definitely did not expect it to continue on after i left shanghai and i definitely did not expect that this many people would open up their hearts. it is comforting that their identity isn't revealed but, it still amazes me that they wouldn't mind sharing it with me and my camera.
and so i've written a short piece, this is for the girl who wrote secret number 97, this is written for the girl with sad eyes:
i read the words through my lens and i wasn’t sure if i should ask. but when i did, you forced a smile and mumbled something softly. i saw it in the way that your eyes didn't crinkle the way they always do, and in the way your voice wavered like trembling leaves falling from its home. i asked if it was about your mom, it was a wild guess, and you nodded. you are a girl of many words, and i think this was the first time you found nothing but silence crawling up your throat. i don’t know what your story is, but i wish i do. i wanted to ask you more, i wanted to offer you my apologies, and i wanted to give you a hug. but instead i just took the picture and walked away. for you and your family's sake, i hope she stays safe too.
