Lions in love!

The picture of these two lions was taken during my stay in South Africa. They were kind enough to pose just in front of me!
It is actually a different version of one of the first pictures I posted here.

I can't think of many ways to improve upon this- you've caught a very difficult (deadly?) subject at a very rare and tender moment. AND the composition, color and contrast are all incredible. I didn't see the original but this one is amazing.

Scoring and technical jargon aside - this is a wonderful shot, and I'm sure that for you, the feeling and experience of being a witness to the 'real' moment was worth a million times more than any score or comment from even the most experienced of photographers. I worked with lions every day for a month in S. Africa and never got a shot even nearly as good as this one. I'm sure you will treasure this picture, and the memory, for a lifetime.

This is a cute shot, and subject-wise a winner. However, the softness of the focus and the colors seem somewhat 'snapshot'-like, and not strong enough. You might consider upping the contrast a bit to make it stand out more.

Great and evocative subject. Unfortunately the softness and noise/grain take away from it. I'm surprised to read martytdx's suggestion to increase the contrast because I would suggest just the opposite. To me the contrast seems overdone and gives an artificial feel to the image.

It looks like an old ektachrome scanned film...great subject, the female looks deeply in love with the hairy one. Don't like such a tight crop, maybe more green on top would help. And the noise, maybe you can scan it again with better results, this image worth it!

So, I didnt read all comments, since you have so many, but I dont think I need to read them for this photo which is great without comments even.

Thanks for mentioning the low resolution, it would have been great if I could have counted the whiskers on the lions face, but at least now I know why thats not possible.

I like the real contrast (colours) and the theoretical contrast (evil deadly lions, being sweet and loving)

I think crop is pretty good, I would have like to see a 2nd photo showing them from a little less cropped, their whole bodies, but still often they say: get closer for better photos, so good job!

What kind of lense did you use to take this shot btw?

It was taken with an old Nikon FG-20 and a kiron 18-200 lens that gives it an old touch.
Here's the original version:

It looks overexposed I don't know why because the printed version is just perfect and that's the most important for me!

I try not to look at other people's comments before I make my own, but I saw that you posted the original. I actually really like the original photo - I can see why the crop was suggested, as it is nice to hone in one the lions' faces, but I really like the framing of the tree in the original shot. You've captured a very sweet moment here - good colors in this shot. Clarity is difficult to assess because of the poor scan. You might want to very lightly try burning the left side of the female lion's face to accentuate the shadows in the slightly blown out area.

Even with the fact that I do agree with many of the comments above, particularly those about the noise and low res, this image still has grabbed my attention and won't let go. At the end of the day that is what really matters about any image!
